History
This railway line was built in 1909 and is a great monument and legend of the Elbe-Weser-Triangle, like the big sails of the tiny boats that can be seen in the Teufelsmoor (Devil's Moor).
With the Moor Express the transport via land has been made possible for the first time in history. Moorexpress probably sounds lovingly exaggerated in this day and age. But compared to the boat transport (a one day travel to Bremen!) it was a revolution in time.
As its water bound predecessors the Moorexpress is a legend and a symbol for the region and its colonisation. A huge share of the special charm owes the Express various artists (i.e. Heinrich Vogeler) from Worpswede that designed the station buildings and their interiors.
Regular passenger service ceased in 1978, but since 2000 it is once again possible to travel back in time on the old tracks. In these days the train has a regular time-table for the weekends and public holidays.
Enjoy a wide, unsettled landscape on your trip with the Moorexpress. Here you can ideally spend your holidays or weekends. The historic tubs for peat transportation can be reached ideally with this train.
